Year: 40's war years |
| Description:
This is a pair of matched receipts for a bicycle
purchased in Japan toward the end of the war. Both indicate
that the amount was 351.40 yen. One receipt is the Japanese
version, while the other has the name and what the receipt is for
written in English. I can't read the Japanese writing,
but there is a story to this receipt: Joseph A. Riesinger was
my father and he was in the army and stationed in Japan during
WWII. When he came home he brought his gun (didn't
everybody?), a bicycle and a few other treasures. I remember
riding with him on this bicycle. Payment by money order or check - hold on orders paid by check.

Year: early 60's |
| Description:
In the early to mid 60's the pharmaceutical companies did a lot
of 'special edition' advertisements. They weren't really advertising
a particular drug, but rather were a form of good-will advertising
and usually dealt with some aspect of history, coin or stamp
collecting or other 'momento'. This series of tokens/charms
and stones are each accompanied by a story about the ancient history
surrounding the item and were brochures produced by the Eli Lilly
Company. Each panel was originally part of a larger brochure
talking about their various new drugs. There are 6 total but
one is a duplicate. The tokens are not really valuable, but
it's a great history lesson! Included are the Egyptian Scarab, a
Talisman of Abraxas, Tiger's Eye, Red Jasper and The Crown of the
Magi.
